About this course

For Power BI developers ready for what comes next: Microsoft Fabric brings data engineering, warehousing and Power BI into one platform. You build a lakehouse, load and shape data with Dataflows Gen2 and pipelines, model it as a semantic model on Direct Lake, and run it like a product — with workspaces, deployment and governance. It covers the analytics-engineering topics Microsoft’s Fabric certifications are built on.

Who this is for

  • Power BI developers and BI analysts
  • MIS and reporting teams moving to Fabric
  • Data engineers new to the Microsoft stack

What you’ll be able to do

  • Explain how Fabric’s parts fit together around OneLake
  • Build a lakehouse and load it with Dataflows Gen2 and pipelines
  • Query and shape data with SQL in a warehouse or SQL endpoint
  • Build semantic models on Direct Lake and know when to use import
  • Organise workspaces, deployment pipelines and access
  • Monitor refreshes, capacity use and costs

Tools you’ll use

  • Microsoft Fabric
  • OneLake & Lakehouse
  • Dataflows Gen2
  • Data pipelines
  • Fabric Warehouse & SQL
  • Direct Lake
  • Power BI

Curriculum

  • Files versus tables: Delta format in plain words
Week 2Getting data in4 topics
  • Dataflows Gen2: Power Query at scale
  • Data pipelines and scheduling
  • Notebooks: when a little code helps
  • Medallion layers: raw, cleaned, ready
Week 3Warehouse and semantic models4 topics
  • SQL endpoint and Fabric Warehouse
  • Semantic models on Direct Lake
  • Import vs DirectQuery vs Direct Lake
  • Copilot in Fabric: what it helps with
Week 4Running it like a product4 topics
  • Deployment pipelines and Git integration
  • Security and access
  • Monitoring refreshes and capacity
  • Project build and demo

Your project

You rebuild a Power BI report on Fabric: raw files into a lakehouse, shaped through a pipeline, served by a Direct Lake semantic model, and deployed from a development to a production workspace.

Where you’ll use this

  • Replacing scattered Power BI datasets with one governed model
  • Larger data volumes than import mode handles well
  • Separating development and production reporting
  • Preparing for Fabric certification study

Before you start

Confident Power BI: Power Query, data modelling and DAX — our Power BI course or equivalent work experience. A Microsoft work or school account for the Fabric trial.

Who teaches it

The course is designed and taught by data and AI practitioners — people who build data pipelines, dashboards and AI systems for businesses — so every exercise reflects how the tool is used on real work.

Certificate

You receive a GeXOn Training Center certificate when you complete the course and its project.

Every certificate carries an ID that employers can check at trainingcenter.gexonai.com/verify.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a paid Fabric capacity?

No. Microsoft offers a Fabric trial for work or school accounts, which covers the course. We’ll also talk through what capacity your organisation would need.

Does this prepare me for a Fabric certification?

It covers much of the same ground, but it’s built around doing the work, not the exam. If certification is your goal, tell us and we’ll point out what to study further.

When will it run?
